Fourth Rule: Use active voice if it’s possible.

The difference between average prose and excellent prose is the difference between the passive and the active voice. Be sure that active verbs drive your writing.

Instead of:

Thousands of dead bodies were laid on the battlefield in the historical thiller novel.

Write:  Dead bodies covered the ground.
